PHOTO: Nairne, South Australia
This is a photo of sunset in Nairne, a small town in the Adelaide Hills (south east of Adelaide) in South Australia.
I chose this picture because of its striking beauty. When I captured the image I remember how the clouds resembled waves in the ocean, particularly the underside of the waves as they break on their approach to shore. The colours are also amazing with the blend of purple, blue, pink, orange, yellow, white and black.
My family and I migrated to Australia many years ago, after having lived in England for many years. I wanted a slower lifestyle after having worked in London city as an investment banker and finance specialist for almost fifteen years. I thought a slower pace in an outdoor oriented country like Australia would give me more time with my family.
What I had not realised was how much slower South Australia, and especially Nairne, would be. This is now an amusing anecdote for my family and I.
Many years on, we now live in Melbourne. Stupidly I seem to have replicated the working life I had in London; well, not quite as manic, but almost as demanding. I feel like my work has taken over my life. This is sad because I have slipped into a routine which does not afford me time to take my family out, with my camera in hand, and appreciate the beauty that is all around us. I have ventured so far away from "me".
Time for change.
