PHOTO: Holy Island, Wales, UK
I took this photo many years ago, but I remember it like it was last week. The onshore wind was intense and cold as it blew in a storm off the Irish Sea. Just look at that sky. Depending on your awe for nature you might or might not want to be in the lighthouse when the storm makes landfall.
It's places like this, at times like when I took the photo, that make us aware of the grandeur of our universe - the scale of the surroundings, the height of that dark sky, the size of the waves as they swell and smash onto the shore, and the strength of the wind that can blow you off your feet.
Just think how long that island has been there and what it has seen over centuries. There is evidence of Neolithic farming on Holy Island. The Neolithic is said to have begun about 12,000 years ago. The island was clearly there before the Neolithic farmers arrived.
It was a privilege for me to stand in that place.
