Self-Wealth versus Spiritual Health

Image
In our times we increasingly see a decline in spirituality – it is evident since the 1900’s and markedly obvious since the 1950’s (for example – see the charts at the bottom of this article).   What happened around those times that could have prompted a move away from spiritual belief? The two biggest and obvious global events were World War 1 and World War 2. We might say that something happened in the collective human psyche across the globe to lead into both of the wars; perhaps there was a madness or mania that drove humans into a frenzy to kill their fellows en-masse (about 20 million deaths from World War 1, and at least 50 million from World War 2)? Perhaps it was an after-effect of the wars: having seen so much hatred for each other during the wars led humans into a type of post-traumatic stress characterised by an extreme lack of hope towards the future? It may even have something to do with the increasing rise of materialism and self-determinism since the start of the ind...

The "Dark Woods" Journey

Image
If the proposition in my book “Transcendence” is correct and we humans are in fact the creation of a fallen race of dark angels, then we are inherently imperfect and prone to dysfunctional and evil behaviours in a dark world. That would explain a lot about our history and how it is riddled with destruction. However, humanity does not face an inevitable fate of living and dying without hope. If we are spiritual and we are open to the fact that God has blessed us with the ability to save our souls – by instilling within us the Divine Spirit from God – then we know we have hope.   In the extra-biblical book known as the Apocryphon of John, we are told (and I paraphrase): “as the blessed One (God) did not want the fallen to hold power over the material body of humans, the blessed One showed mercy to the soul that was instilled within humans by the head angel of the fallen. So the blessed One instilled within humanity (via the first created humans) enlightened thought (the Divine / Holy...

Spiritual Connection

Image
Labelling ourselves as religious does not make us spiritual – that is, simply stating that we belong to a particular religious group, and that we attend some sort of organised “worshipful service” maybe once per week, does not mean that we are spiritual. There are very many people who will claim religious affiliation without ever understanding what it means to be spiritual. Truly spiritual people feel a personal connection to God, and here I do not mean mere “lip-service”, as in “I believe there is some sort of spiritual force bigger than me at play in the universe”. When I speak of a personal connection I mean a real, palpable sensation that I have a constant relationship with an entity where our relationship is characterised by mutual trust, belief, support, care and love. Despite the fact that I cannot see the entity, our relationship is a two-way interaction in which there are “highs” and “lows”, just as in any relationship we have with our human counterparts. There is also a deep ...

It's a Mad World

Image
Recently I enjoyed re-watching one of my favourite films: Groundhog Day (starring Bill Murray). The film is such a joy because it provides a message of optimism and makes us realise that the choice is ours for a life of hope and fulfilled living. The world we live in is increasingly meaningless, and there are many reasons for this, with the major reason – in my opinion – being humanity’s inclination to forget and ignore its spiritual origins. We have arrogantly come to think that everything we have in life is self-determined; that we are masters of our own universe and fate. The only thing we need for a fulfilled life is money, and the more we have the better we can live. So our lives become driven by work, which gives us money, which enables us to buy whatever we want. Not surprising then that we fulfil the words from the book of Job: “Is not man’s life on earth no more than pressed service, his time no better than hired drudgery? Like the slave, sighing for the shade, or the workman ...
