The Light in the World

Heavenly Father, be in my soul, my heart, my mind, and my words.

Life has a way of obstructing us from what is truly important. Our spiritual wellness is often the very last thing we think of, if we think of it at all. This spiritual wellness is the most important thing, above all else. If we do not have spiritual wellness our souls are at risk of being lost to the darkness of this fallen world. There is one simple truth: our soul, upon death of the body, can transcend to light and unite with the One true God, or it can remain in this world, reincarnated into another body so that it continuously lives this life.

How do I know that the soul can transcend this world and unite in the light of the One? I know it through the example of Jesus.

People fall foul to the theology built by Christian religious dogma. In essence, that theology tells us that Jesus was “God made man”. In my opinion, this is incorrect. The One true God has no interest in being a human. The other error is that we blindly accept Jesus was / is the “son of God”. On this, we must consider that the spirit in Jesus came from God; that the spirit within human Jesus made him a “child of God”.

As long as we accept the theological errors that Jesus is God, or the son of God, we put Jesus out of reach of every human being. How could we ever hope to attain the example of Jesus if we see him as God – totally perfect and incorruptible in every way? No human on earth can attain the status of God.

Jesus himself, many times (especially in the Gospel of John) called himself the “son of man” – for example: consider John 5: 26-27…

“For the Father, who is the source of life, has made the Son the source of life; and, because he is the son of man, has appointed him supreme judge.”

Let’s consider what this means.

Jesus was born of Mary, a human. I assert that the human father who conceived Jesus was a man called Joseph (there was no divine conception via an “angel” or God himself). Jesus was a human being, with a human soul in a human body, just like every one of us. The One true God – the heavenly Father – instilled God’s spirit within the human soul, mind, and body of Jesus. This is told to us by Jesus himself in John 3: 33 …

“…since he whom God has sent speaks God’s own words; God gives him spirit without reserve.”

That spirit of God is what made Jesus different from us. Jesus was pure in soul, mind, and body that he was able to receive and keep the spirit of God within himself during his human life on earth. It is precisely because Jesus was human (a son of man) that God gave him spirit (the source of life), so that Jesus could show us how humans should live. Jesus lived in the pursuit and service of God, the heavenly Father. That is why Jesus was appointed the “supreme judge”; it is because Jesus lived life as a human, and experienced all human trials and sufferings, that he was able to understand and appreciate the human condition, and therefore “judge” good and bad in humans.

Jesus was an example of human life on earth. Jesus had to endure the pain and frustration of being an infant; he had to learn about life just like other humans, and when he was old enough (from the age of 7 to 12) he received the spirit of God into his soul and mind so that he became enlightened. During that enlightened state, Jesus continued to learn the spiritual way until he was about 28. When Jesus was so filled with the spirit, he began to teach fellow humans about how to transcend this world so that they could unite their souls with the One. For a short time, from the age of 28 to about the age of 33, Jesus also experienced the frustrations and sufferings of being an adult human in an evil world. In all of his sufferings, not once did “the divine hand of God” come down from heaven and save Jesus from his human plight. When he endured temptation from the devil in the desert; when he endured ridicule from his Jewish peers; when he faced fear in the Garden; when he was arrested and tried; when he was whipped; when he had to carry his cross to the place of his execution; when he suffered on the cross and was stabbed in the ribs; when he died, “the hand of God” did not once come to assist Jesus. The life and death of Jesus was that of a human.

The difference between Jesus and every other ordinary human is that Jesus received the spirit of God into his soul and held that spirit there for his entire life on earth. That is what made Jesus “divine”; that is what enabled Jesus to resurrect body and soul after he died (as a human) on the cross.

So, when we consider the miracle of the resurrected Jesus we must understand that Jesus did not rise because he was God; because he was invincible and eternal like God. The miracle lies in the fact that Jesus was human, and was able to rise, body and soul, from death. The miracle lies in the fact that any human who receives the spirit of God into their soul and body, and retains that spirit throughout their life on earth so that they live the will of God and achieve enlightenment, can receive eternal life.

Jesus himself told us this in John 3: 33 …

“Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life.”
