Gods and Humans
There was a time in ancient history when the human race was in direct contact with the “gods” (for example: 1Enoch 3:1-14, and 1Enoch 5:24-34 ; Genesis 3:8-12).
In my opinion, the “gods” were fallen angelic beings who came from God but were not God. However, in the eyes of early humans, the fallen angelic beings must have seemed “God-like” due to their advanced physical and mental capabilities. Since the beginning of our modern human race we have been confused about this.
In fact, the entire Old Testament is full of references to gods interacting directly with humans, and humans confusing the gods with the ONE true God. Consider the many examples where the gods – as the persona Yahweh – interacted and spoke with humans (see the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, and on, and on).
I assert that human interaction with the gods continued up to the time of the prophet Ezekiel – circa 622 BCE to 570 BCE – when Ezekiel witnessed the departure of the gods from earth (Ezekiel 1:4-28, and 10:1-22, and 11:22-23).
Our connection with the gods would have occurred prior to the Great Flood (involving Noah), and again after that. Sophisticated humans – starting from Adam and Eve – were created before the Flood. My personal theory is that interaction between gods and humans began around 12,000 BCE to 10,000 BCE. That time is widely believed to be when humans evolved from simple hunter-gatherers into organised and civilised farmers, during what is called the Neolithic Revolution. The book of Genesis describes early humans as farmers (Genesis 1:26, and 1:29, and 2:5, and 2:15, and 3:17-19, and 4:2).
I think the Flood might have occurred around 4,300 BCE – during the age of Taurus (the age of the bull). I theorise this because the god of the time – Enlil, or El – was symbolised by a bull. According to the ancient Sumerian texts, it was also Enlil who brought the flood to destroy the first iteration of modern humans.
Noah and his family survived the Flood and went on to repopulate the earth. According to ancient Sumerian texts, Noah was assisted by the god Enki (brother of Enlil), the more tolerant god who cared for and assisted humans in their physical development, learning, and expansion as a race. The symbols for Enki were a fish and / or a goat / ram. I believe it was during the age of Aries (the age of the ram, between 2,150 BCE and 1 CE) that the gods left earth (around 600 BCE, as described in the book of Ezekiel).
The Neolithic Age is said to have occurred between 10,000 BCE to 2,000 BCE. Archaeologists believe that Stonehenge was constructed between 3,100 BCE to 2,000 BCE. I believe that early humans were assisted by the gods in building some of the most awe-inspiring monuments the world has ever seen, for example: Gobekli Tepe, Baalbek, the Pyramids of Egypt, Stonehenge, the Pyramids of Mesoamerica, and even the First Temple (Solomon’s Temple) in Jerusalem.
Nowadays, modern humans have forgotten their connection to the gods and are even losing their belief in the ONE true God. Very few people bother to read and understand their history (and it’s not just in the Bible), and when they do they approach it with so much scepticism and unfounded critical objection that human history is degraded and labelled as “ridiculous fantasy”.
Our history actually happened. So did the “gods” and our relationship with those “gods”, as well as the teachings of Jesus Christ on the ONE true God. Human spirituality is recorded in many documents that can be traced back to ancient times. Unfortunately, humans are more likely to believe “fake news” and stupid empty content from the vast array of social media platforms before they seriously contemplate real history.
Even though we should, above all else, connect with the ONE true God rather than with the fallen angelic “gods”, if the starting point for us to salvage our spirituality is understanding the fallen “gods” who once actually lived on the earth and interacted with humans, then so be it.
